About Lego WeDo

Lego WeDo is a fantastic educational toy that really inspires and excites children. These are the kits that JuniorSTEM use in their primary school STEM robotics workshops.

All the Lego pieces are standard and will fit with your existing collection. However, the main benefit of buying one of these kits to use at home is the programmable motors and sensors that bring Lego models to life – again the these electronic parts have standard studs so are fully compatible with normal bricks. Sounds and images can be added to the computer screen to accompany the models, as well as some other cool features. Through play, and without realising it, children (and adults!) develop a range of programming and engineering skills.

These skills, and the knowledge taught by doing the focused and open  activities found on the software, are in demand. The UK has a shortage of engineers and programmers, and they are commanding higher and higher salaries. The rise of robotic machines and the automation of more jobs is compounding the shortage of people with the right qualifications, training and experience. Lego WeDo could be the beginning of a rewarding career path for your child.

But best of all, it’s great fun!

There are 2 different Lego WeDo Robotics kits. The original 1.0 (official part number 9580) was launched in 2009 and is still on sale until the end of 2017. In January 2016 Lego brought out a completely new version called 2.0 (official part number 45300) with some smart new features. Follow the links to find out more about the similarities and differences of each kit.
