The Gears & Pulleys workshop is popular with Y5 and Y6 teachers; it can be run as a 90 min session or as part of a full day.
The children are taught some basic WeDo software commands in order to control the motor. They are then introduced to pulleys and gears before using JuniorSTEM instructions to build a model which helps them to investigate gearing up, gearing down and changing the direction of rotation.
Confident engineers are encouraged to try using crown gears and a worm gear mechanism to extend their learning. All children are then challenged to apply their learning by coming up with their own designs and trying out their ideas.
It’s a very engaging workshop and packed full of hands on, practical learning.
” We all enjoyed working with you are were impressed by the amount of material you managed to cover in such a short time. ”
